Bowel Cancer Australia - Ambassador
After 40 years in the business of investment banking, Peter Mason AM has a keen eye for value and a good deal.
So when he chose to support Bowel Cancer Australia - initially by sponsoring production of our first apple pins back in 2006 - it was a good indication that he could see and appreciate the potential return on bowel cancer awareness.
Increased community awareness of bowel cancer, its risk factors, symptoms and screening messages will after all help save lives through prevention and early detection of the disease.
Peter is a senior advisor to UBS Investment Bank and a non-executive director of Singapore Telecommunications Ltd (SingTel). He also chairs the influential Centre for International Finance and Regulation.
He is a former chairman of AMP Limited, David Jones Limited, JP Morgan in Australia, Ord Minnett Group and other businesses.
Bowel Cancer Australia chief executive Julien Wiggins said the contribution of respected business leaders like Peter was invaluable.
"Bowel Cancer Australia is very fortunate to have many supporters from all walks of life. While support from the big end of town is always welcome, it is particularly helpful to raise the profile of bowel cancer in the community."
Peter was appointed a member of the Order of Australia for his contribution to the Children's Hospital at Westmead in Sydney. He was a director of the hospital for 12 years and chaired the Children's Hospital Fund for eight years.
His many other interests have included the Sydney Opera House Trust; the University of New South Wales Foundation; the National Youth Mental Health Foundation (Headspace) and the Australian Indigenous Education Foundation.
